Starting from level 20 you will want to start hunting in the Thundering Steppes for 3 reasons. The mobfs in Antonica and Commonlands are too low by now, Nektulos Forest has extremely poor visibility thus slowing down how fast you can find and kill mobfs, and finally and most importantly, this zone has a fair number of groupfs there with a couple of dungeon zones off of it, and since grouping gives better experience than soloing, you might as well solo for experience while you are looking for a group in the zone. Wherever you go in this zone, be aware of Doomsquall and Grimfeather, both level 35 epic mobs who will quite happily kill you in one hit if you run into them.
I recommend starting off killing the crabs on the north-eastern shore first, be wary of the grouped skeletons that lay in the ruins between the shore and the road however, as they will make fairly short work of you at this level. After gaining a level or two here you will wish to move down to the south of the map, to where the giants are. Formerly a prime group xp spot, zone re-tiering rendered the giants into solo mobs and though there are not many of them, there are a few solo quests in the area, and also a bunch of solo mobs just nearby in the river bed as well.
Some decent quests in this zone include the repeatable quests for Trapper Borgus at [221,-949], the Wandering Augurfs quests from [388,-520], and the Far Seafs Requisitions on the docks. You will also wish to visit The Bridge Keep at [200,-200] and complete 3 questfs for Turgen Bremhurst. This will gain you the key to open the doorfs at the keep at any time of the day, but be warned that you must know how to speak Barbarian first, so make sure to pick up the language primer in the Scale Yard from the sage. Make sure to get all the quests from Thundermist Village as well, especially the quests from Brianna, as the second quest from her, which involves visiting the instanced Rumbler Caves (the location changes but is always within the river bed), gains you the choice of one piece of equipment from a decent list.
